For 2008 the format has been designed to create a Nations Cup Competition featuring 5 teams playing competitive doubles. The teams will have 2 players each representing their country and will battle against other Nations to secure a place in Friday’s final.
Each match will be a pro-set (first to 8) and will involve 4 matches on each of the first two days and three matches on Thursday, culminating in a 3 set final on Friday afternoon.
The first four days will be exclusively for the corporate hospitality market, and on Saturday the public will have the opportunity to purchase tickets to enjoy three competitive exhibition matches.
The organisers, Bluefinch Events, have already contracted some of the players, including the legendary Mansour Bahrami, who never fails to thrill the crowds and bring broad smiles to their faces. Joining Mansour will be seven-time Grand Slam Singles Champion Mats Wilander and his doubles partner Mikael Pernfors, who together make a formidable doubles pairing. John Fitzgerald and Peter McNamara look a likely pairing for the Australians, and The Jensen Brothers are hoping to represent the USA. Despite his absence last year for the birth of his son, Henri Leconte looks set to team up with his old Davis Cup partner, Cedric Pioline, to mount a strong French challenge for the title. "This will be the strongest field of Grand Slam Champions we have ever put together for ‘The Boodles’" says Patrick Carr, Tournament Director.
